We are back this week with new fun writing activities to encourage creativity and flow of ideas.

‘Take Three Nouns’: Here is a nice free writing exercise that you could do with your students in class!

Before class select a number of words(either from previously taught vocabulary lesson or simply random words) and write each word on a ticket. Ask one student in the class to extract three tickets, then write them on the board. For instance the words might be:  DESPAIR      TREE          CAKE

The second step is you have a class discussion with your students.Ask them what the words make them think about when seen together ? How do your students connect them? Brainstorm for creative ideas together then…start writing! 

Famous Book Plot Generator: This writing activity is really useful for those of you who are teaching literature. Select the stories and novels you have taught in class and write a very short summary of their plots. Write each summary on a ticket; you can even leave out the author and the name of the book. Here is an example:

A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess : In future Britain, charismatic delinquent Alex DeLarge is jailed and volunteers for an experimental aversion therapy developed by the government in an effort to solve society’s crime problem – but not all goes according to plan.

Ask the students in your class to extract a ticket and write their own story having the plot summary as a starting point.
