The Family Album, by Maria Buciu
It was a busy afternoon and I went looking for our family album in the attic. When I finally found it, I blew the dust away to see the title. The dust got into my eyes, so I closed them. I blinked.
It was a quiet Sunday morning. I was in my mum?s bed. At first I didn?t realise that, but when I sat up, I looked left and I saw myself in the mirror, but looking as my mother. I was terrified, because it was like I was caught in my mum?s body. I looked around. ?I? ? I mean Maria ? was sleeping next to me. I was very surprised.
After that I went into the kitchen. I started to prepare a …. wait a minute…. coffee? What was I thinking? Well, I made it, then I went back to the dining room. Coffee tasted horrible! It was SO bitter!
?I?… I mean Maria (my daughter), entered the room, took her mobile phone and began to play, to send text messages and to surf the Internet.
?MARIIIIAAAAAA!!!!! I shouted. PUT THE PHONE DOWN!!! NOW!!!?
?Ok, ok, just calm down.? It was awful! I was not only looking like mum, I also had her personality!
I called my best friend….well, I called Maria?s best friend, Mara, and we arranged to meet in the park. I did not know how to drive, so I asked Maria to drive. She drove very well. Suddenly, I saw a police car following us. We stopped and a bored policeman came over. I tried to tell him the whole story, but he didn?t believe me. I began to cry, so I closed my eyes. When I opened them, I was in the street, next to my mum.
That day taught me that it is really hard to control everything around you without a break and it?s better to be a child. And by the way, I?ll tell my mum not to drink coffee anymore, because it?s disgusting and it is not good for her stomach.
