“HARRY POTTER, MARY POPPINS? NO, JUST ME- by Szasz Anca, student at Dimitrie Tichindeal Highschool, Arad
First, I wanted to write about Heidi. You know the famous book by Johana Spyri, “Heidi”s Years of Wandering and Learning”. This book was the icon of my childhood. Then, I remembered about Sara, the main character from “A little princess” by Frances Hodgson Burnett, it was the first book which made me cry. The story of the orphan girl impressed me so much.
Black Beauty was my favorite book when I was ten. I have read it three times so far. The life of an innocent animal which suffered because of a cruel master seemed too sad for a child.
After that I read “The adventures of Huckleberry Finn” by Mark Twain. I loved this wonderful story about the boy who had so many exciting adventures. But the spirit of Harry Potter seduced me and I was sure I would study at Hogwarts.
Another important character was Marry Poppins, the super-nanny was so great, that I wanted to become a nanny too. I just adored those six incredible novels.
Later I started reading romance novels. A lot of romantic and unreal characters made me realized that life isn’t as stories are.
Twilight, of course I read Twilight. I enjoyed every page.
But I wouldn’t like to be a character of one of these books which marked my childhood .Not even just for one single day. I want to be me- today, tomorrow and forever-, the same old “me”.
If I were Heidi I would walk on the hills all day long. If I were Harry Potter I would turn my neighbour into a frog. And if I were Bella from Twilight, I wouldn’t fall in love with a vampire.
But I am not one of them. I am a fourteen year old girl from a small city of Romania and I like it the way it is.
And, of course, I know the topic of this contest, but no character impressed me so much to make me want to be someone else. I am happy the way I am.
