If last time we discussed about reviews, let’s dwell a bit more on pieces of writing meant for publishing and discuss about ARTICLES.
An ARTICLE is a piece of writing included in various publications. Therefore, first of all, take into consideration the type of the publication your article will be published in, either a newspaper(meant to inform) or a magazine(designed to reach specific target audiences, hence the great variety of magazines). Once you have identified your readership , decide upon your topic and research it. Usually, for a newspaper article you should ideally have three different sources. Nevertheless, respect copyright and cite your sources!
Remember, your main purpose in an article is to inform, therefore try to cover the 5 WH-Questions, related to your topic :
- Who is it about?
- What happened?
- Where did it take place?
- When did it take place?
- Why did it happen?
Details such as lengh and editing are also very important. Never forget to revise your work, correct or re-right it, if necessary.
